Reynosa has recently experienced turmoil as federal police continue their crackdown on the Gulf Cartel drug traffickers. It is not advisable to be out on the streets or cross through the city after dark, and most businesses now close by 10pm with frequent military stops and searches occurring after that time. Reynosa's police chief was arrested by federales in March 2008 on suspicion of corruption. Approach Reynosa with caution at this time.
